HEARTFELT TRADITIONS: Christmas Ornaments & Pottery

Kim Ries, owner and artist of Heartfelt Traditions based in Florence, Mississippi creates beautiful holiday ornaments and pottery.

Many of your customers have a holiday tradition of purchasing an ornament for their children that reflects a milestone in their life the past year.

Kim explains "every year for Christmas, I would desperately search for Christmas or
naments that reflected a family event from the year. It was a tradition that I started with my children when they were born. In 2004, I could not find a pokemon ornament anywhere. After much distress, a friend of mine said that she would make the ornament for me and others too. All was good! When I received the ornaments just before Christmas, one was missing. I was heartbroken. What was I to do?

A Business is Born
I decided to start taking ceramics classes with my friend. I instantly caught on and started creating my
own unique molds. When Christmas rolled around again, I made my own ornaments and received requests from friends. I filled those orders, and they kept coming. This was the beginning of my ceramic business.

I played around with ideas and molds and in 2005 began selling wholesale to stores.
In early 2007, I launched a unique pottery line with crosses and Fleur de Leis and the rest is history. The business has grown and we now are selling in 6 states."

The 2008 Holiday line is filled with brightly colored cross pottery, all hand thrown and hand glazed including:
  • ornaments that are double sided
  • Christmas tree platters
  • punch bowls
  • chip-n-dips
